Kim Jong Il led his nation through a devastating famine while frustrating the U.S. and other global powers with an on-again, off-again approach to talks on giving up nuclear arms in return for energy and other assistance. Kim was one of the last remnants of a Cold War-era that ended years earlier in most other countries.

His death was announced Monday by state television two days after he died. North Korea’s news agency reported that he had died at 8:30 a.m. Saturday after having a heart attack on a train, adding that he had been treated for cardiac and cerebrovascular diseases for a long time. He was 69.

House Republicans will vote down a two-month payroll tax bill approved by the Senate this weekend, saying Monday that short-term solutions create instability for the economy and push the problem of a negotiating a longer deal into next year.

“Americans are tired of short-term fixes. Democrats and Republicans agreed that a payroll tax cut needs to be extended for a full year. The House passed a bill to do just that,” said House Speaker John Boehner.

Boehner said the House will vote to disagree with the Senate-backed bill approved Saturday and take their own legislation to conference with Senate negotiators through the regular order of business.

But Senate Democrats say Saturday’s vote was expected to be the last one of the year, and they have no plans to return to Washington before the next session in January. They add that they considered the Senate bill a bipartisan compromise. It passed 89-10.

For 884 million people, having no access to a safe water supply is a daily reality. Every year 1.4 million children die from diarrhoeal diseases – diseases transmitted through contaminated water and poor hygiene practices. Every day more than 3,800 children die from a diarrhoeal disease; that means one child dies every 20 seconds.

Unsafe water sources that people are forced to use every day are killing thousands.

Samaritan’s Purse Canada is attacking this travesty instals BioSand Water Filters in homes throughout the developing world. These simple household water filters effectively remove up to 99 per cent of all water-borne pathogens, along with particulate matter. The result is water that is safe to drink, cook and clean with.

Samaritan’s Purse Canada has provided more than 142,000 families around with the world with safe water through the BioSand Water Filter and another 2,000 filters are installed each month, along with essential health and hygiene training. It is our goal to have installed filters in 155,000 homes, schools, and hospitals by December of 2011 giving safe water to over one million people.

How You Can Help
Canadians can Turn on the Tap to clean water for a family at an average worldwide cost of only $100, providing a family with the filter, vital health and hygiene education and filter maintenance. Donate now to Turn on the Tap

Oxfam’s programs address the structural causes of poverty and related injustice and work primarily through local accountable organizations, seeking to enhance their effectiveness. We aim to help people directly where local capacity is insufficient or inappropriate for Oxfam’s purposes, and to assist in the development of structures which directly benefit people facing the realities of poverty and injustice.

Oxfam believes that poverty and powerlessness are avoidable and can be eliminated by human action and political will. The right to a sustainable livelihood, and the right and capacity to participate in societies and make positive changes to people’s lives are basic human needs and rights which can be met. Oxfam believes that peace and substantial arms reduction are essential conditions for development and that inequalities can be significantly reduced both between rich and poor nations and within nations.

FIBP has two collections out to support the charities listed above. The first is The Story Tellers’ Anthology, which donates all proceeds to Turn on the Tap. Each collection only costs 99 cents, and the anthology includes loads of stories, in assorted genres.

Christmas O’Clock is an anthology of two book and two stories, both geared for kids at Christmastime. All proceeds of Christmas O’Clock go to Oxfam to help children and families in an international effort. This collection also costs 99 cents.

Johanna Garth/Gretchen Rubin/Losing Beauty/The Happiness Project/Fantasy island Book Publishing

It was the morning of the big Girl Scout meeting and I was a little worried my smile and the world smiles with you approach might fall short. I decided to call in the big guns, or more precisely the 'pretend I'm on Prozac' approach where (as I imagine it) problems, big and small, are no problem at all.
The girls arrived and crowded around my kitchen table to prepare their shopping lists. When I told them they'd be doing their shopping by themselves they had lots of questions:

"Can we stop and get the free cookie?"

"Should we buy organic ingredients?"

"Do we each get our own shopping cart?"

My answer in Prozac-inspired style: "Good questions! I think you should come to your own consensus." A consensus was quickly reached about the free cookie (no surprises there) but there was a little more discussion about the second two issues.

At the grocery store, my fellow sister leader and I had the pleasure of watching the girls trail up and down the aisles from the front of the store. It was surprisingly amusing to watch them search for taco seasoning in the cookie aisle. After 45 minutes they had collected their ten ingredients, calculated the cost (discovering in the process that organic costs more) and we checked out and headed home.

The girls went to work. Milk was spilled. Eggs were cracked, sometimes in the bowl and sometimes on the counter. My kitchen floor developed a coating of cocoa powder and flour that combined with the few chunks of hamburger meat that had flipped out of the pan.

"Ewwww," said the girls. "That's disgusting."

"Yes," I agreed, still on my pretend Prozac. "Someone should probably clean it up before you step in it. It'll be really gross if it gets on your socks."

They stared at me blankly for a moment. Then one of them grabbed the cleaning spray and another grabbed the paper towels.

Onions were chopped. Tears were shed. The decision was made to wear goggles to protect from onion fumes. The jury is still out on whether it was effective.

My husband ventured in from outside where he was hanging Christmas lights just in time to witness one Girl Scout wielding my Sabatier cleaver over the head of another Girl Scout.

"Umm, honey, do you think they should use those knives?!?"

I could see the panic in his eyes but I held on tight to my pretend Prozac zen. "Girls, remember, those knives can cut through bone," I said and calmly took a sip of tea.

After several hours we all sat down, happily unmaimed, to a delicious lunch of tacos, cornbread and chocolate pudding cake. We were a little behind schedule, but hey, timing IS one of the hardest things to get right in cooking. As for me, dare I say it? I had FUN! Smile and the world smiles with you. Fake it 'til you make it. Or maybe, just pretend you're on Prozac and the zen will follow!

egypt ablaze, Valerie Douglas - Servant of the Gods - Fantasy Island Book Publishing, J. J. Makins

Valerie Douglas - Servant of the Gods - Fantasy Island Book Publishing - Egypt

As a student of history I've been fascinated by Egypt and the Arab world for most of my life. I watched the dawn of the Arab Spring with amazement and a real sense of hope that perhaps once again that part of the world could be an example to the rest of us.
Say what you will of Greece being the cradle of democracy, it was in the lands of the Near East where civilization was birthed and nurtured.
As I watch the Egyptian people fight for a restoration of their rights after decades of near dictatorship, taking to the streets of Cairo in droves, I think back to their ancestors.
In those days learning was treasured. As they tried to make sense of their world they studied the one around them. From the Arab world and India came the concept of Zero (0), without which a base 10 system (used in most computers) would be impossible. The astrologers of the day gave birth to our own wonder at the heavens and the science of astronomy. In the movements of the stars, they noticed that some were fixed while some moved (planets).
In those days, *laughing* unlike ours, there was much complaint in other cultures about the independence of Egyptian women. That still holds today, as some of the most notable of the protesters are Egyptian women. Unlike so many other cultures, in almost all of their art, husbands and wives are pictured together, and ancient documents give testament to their devotion to each other. In most cases, women could hold any occupation they wished, including serving in the army. While not as 'liberal' as we are, they didn't need to be convinced of the value of women in society, it was simply accepted.
There are those who are afraid Egypt and the others will fall under the sway of the militants, but I remember how they stood up first to Mubarak, Gaddafi, etc., and now to the army. Tens of thousands gathered in the square to demand true liberty. Even if they fail, they will have inspired the next generation. After all, they inspired this one. Look at the folks gathered to Occupy Wall Street. It's the same movement, the same idea. And ideals...

Economic apocalypse/ black friday /#1 bestseller/j Darroll hall/warren buffett /stock alert/banking crisis/default/debt crisis/fantasy island book publishing/

In early 2009 I wrote a stock and investment guide for my children who were close to or at adulthood so they could live and invest in the Great American Dream. The first key to that is to understand how stocks, markets, and currencies all work together to make our system work. That book went on to become a #1 bestseller for 61 weeks on Amazon, and still is #22 bestseller today. It was called “Double Down Bounce” and became the fastest selling non fiction e-book in Amazon history.
The fact that Warren Buffett spoke about and put the book on his list of intelligent investor club ‘must reads’ did not hurt the effort whatsoever. My market predictions, successful tactics and strategies have worked for thousands of investors. My bonafide established, let’s get serious for a minute.
As I sit her watching the east Asian markets begin to come alive, (12:00am est Friday) I wonder if this is the beginning of another “Black Friday?” They all somewhat sneak up on us, but this one is very predictable and totally made up for political gain. Everyone with any insight knows there is no debt crisis; one small faction in the GOP has turned this into a crisis by not agreeing to pay our old bills and debt. None of this is about future spending or deficits, it is about paying for what we have already spent in the past. Bills that the Bush and the Republicans ran up for 2 wars, I might add.
How did we get here in just one short decade?
In 2000, the change of guard left a huge budget surplus to the new president, George W. Bush. The budget surplus did not wipe out the old debt of the country under Bush; Ronald Reagan had left us deeply in debt. Historic debt! The debt limit rose 18 times with no calamity under Reagan to reach historic trillions of total debt. Bush decided that we should not run a surplus and give big tax breaks to the wealthy, (trickle down) rather than pay down Reagan’s accumulated debt. Keep in mind democrats had retired a great deal of that huge debt and created a budget surplus under Clinton.
The Bush administration decided to do something unique; they created something called off budget accounts. They fought two wars and gave trillions in tax carve outs to major corporations in tax loopholes or corporate welfare. All off budget and not accounted for, because it was financed in debt bonds, treasury notes sold to China, the oil sheiks and despots around the world. Bush left office with a debt trajectory heading to the very sky and crashed the entire economy in the process. Nice cow-pattie to leave the new guy to step into.
The real deal:
Bush knew from the 2006 elections that they had lost the American voters and were going to lose big, all of it. Tactic, spend all the money and blame it on the new guy. Leave him no way out but to spend big to even spark this economy back to life. Now blame him for all the past and future spending or let the economy just collapse and crash.
The now deal:
The Tea Party & ultimately the Republican plan: Now debt and deficits suddenly begin to matter. Let’s implode the economy now that is in slowly taking a full breath and baby steps toward recovery. Let’s do something we have never done before, take the entire faith of our standing into question and have a total default of America’s credit standing. How much can we crush the American people before they actually wake up? Are you awake yet? Do you understand what is happening, this is a made up crisis. Past spending has nothing to do with future budgeting.
The money for two un-funded wars, a decade of tax cuts for the rich and wealthy, and a give away to the special interest medical and insurance lobbies has left us here in debt. We can in no way deal with this until we understand how and who brought us to this dance in hell. Just because the new boogeyman has a new name does not mean he is different. The tea-party is the crazy wing of the GOP, the clowns out of the closet to disrupt the entire class. And in the end, we are all left watching and blaming the wrong issue.
The Tea party is the diversion, it is a GOP shield for blame, but they all have an “R” by their names. This is slight of hand and Three Card Monte at its very best. This is a tactic used throughout history to overcome a losing strategy. Bring in a ringer to absorb the heat of battle as to make you look like part of the peace process. The GOP war on the middle class is in full swing and raging onward. The GOP created this massive debt and now they want the middle class and lower to pay it all off while the rich get off scot-free. As a wise man once said, follow the money trail. Who is funding this and what do they have to gain. Who is the real loser once the chips are all cashed in? My book will explain all of it and I will give it to you for less than a buck at the end of this. The Republicans claim that lower taxes on the upper tier will create jobs. If that is true, WHY aren’t there more jobs? The rich already have these tax breaks but the fact of the matter is they are NOT creating jobs nor have they since they were given these breaks!
Where’s the beef?
Black Friday, Black Monday, Black Tuesday and flash crash:
All major crashes fall into this venue, except the flash crash that I predicted in 2010 and spoke about on CNN in May of that year. I coined the phrase “Flash Crash” live on the Rick Sanchez show on CNN May 6th of 2010. I cannot say this will be a flash crash; it may be a full cascade, resulting in a total market crash. A total market crash results when all paper issuances (stocks, bonds and paper assets) decrease in value across the board, “hedging”. This is a Bear run to capital assets or convertible currencies, “CASH”. When paper becomes risky everyone converts to cash, and for now, cash, good cash is US dollars.
If stocks and bond begin to collapse the markets will go for US dollars, there are only so many dollars and the more they are wanted the more they are worth. Stocks and bonds are just a sheet of paper or a promise of a promise. US dollars are Cash. When the stock market crashes, US dollars go up in value. When bonds deflate, the US dollar surges or goes up in value. US dollars are real currency, stocks, bonds and other structural notes are just paper. Those types of investments rise and fall based on the demand for them. If all demand is gone, they are in the end just a piece of paper.
This is a stop gap tactic, not a strategy. In the stock market, this is called a “stop loss” or barricade. Protection of assets from instrumental devaluation and conversion is a must in this time of chaos. Conversion occurs when a high value yesterday becomes a lower value today. This is called loss of ACV (actual cash value) or deflation of your net worth. Anyone who has read my book knows this is a time to “park it!” I would not leave a single asset in paper at this time because cash will increase in value and has.
The fish tank (from my book) view of markets.
All markets are a big tank of cash or investments. Most never ripple or ever see a wave; they wax and wane up and down slightly (long view investments) depending on market conditions and performance. If the market gets jittery and suddenly bolts, the tank has sprung a leak, computer programs will kick in to gobble up those falling shares at good prices. Once the owners of those computers see it is not a glitch, and begin to sell off in mass, the cascade has begun. Saving your investments from this is likened to catching a falling knife barehanded and blindfolded. It is far too late for you and your money. But you don’t have money; you have paper chits or shares.
When do I sell?
Last week is always my answer, and you are not selling. This is an investment readjustment to a safer haven. Stay in stocks while stocks are going up, when they are losing, cash goes up in value so go to cash, park it. Cash can buy things, paper stock chits or bonds can’t buy anything. They only have a value judged by the next buyer in the asset food chain. That food chain is ‘buy low and sell high.’ I coined an investment rule, “buy when everyone is selling, sell when everyone is buying!” Sounds better than buy low - sell high and makes a lot more sense. Sell when demand is high, buy when demand is low. Basically, this is gravity of demand in a free market economy.
Black market Friday: Three days of loss leading into an uncertain and unstable futures market. The futures market is unstable! A sudden increase rush into actuals (real things) and cash (dollars). We are no longer waxing and waning, the asset tank has a leak and may break open and deluge your assets into the open sewer for decades to come. Do I trust this divided government to cure this nightmare? That is the question to ask yourself? I say “Park it”. If you don’t understand that, read my book.

Murdoch Bitch slapped...Finally!

News of the World hacking/ LulzSec / Social networking / Google plus / J Darroll Hall / Elaine Gannon/ Anabell Martin/ Connie J. Jasperson/ Eileen Gormley/ S. M. Swartz/ Douglas A. Sanburn/ Claire Chilton/ Ceri Clark/ Rachel Tsoumbakos/ Marilyn Rucker Norrod/ Clu Gallagher/ Danielle Raver/ Kathleen Barker/ Gary Hoover/ Johanna Garth/ J. J. Makins/ Alison DeLuca/ Dean Frank Lappi/ Patty Sarro/ Elaine Gannon/ Thomas A. Knight

The News of the World hacking scandals are still at the top of the headline, grabbing my attention. What they did was inexcusible, from hacking a phone of a murdered girl giving the impression to family members that she was still alive to potentially listening to the phones of 9/11 victims. It was truly atrocious.
So it was with glee that I woke this morning to find that a Murdoch owned newspaper had been hacked in turn. Last night LulzSec took control of the Sun’s servers and redirected people to a spoof article detailing Murdoch’s death. There was an intrepid pitch battle between IT staff and intrepid hackers with LulzSec briefly winning a battle to redirect people to its Twitter account before the forces of Murdoch prevailed and they were locked out. Cool huh?
Another Social Network?
For those who are not yet on Google Plus, why not? Even if you join just for the hangout feature, this is a great tool. Don’t tell anyone but I’m going to be hosting my book group on it!
Combining the last two articles beautifully, a hacker group have announced that they will be creating their own social network. I’m not trying to be funny but would you trust your personal details to a hacker group, however ethical their hacks appear to be? I don’t really trust Google, I’m going to have a hard time trusting a hackers social network!
Before I move on, the reason I don’t one hundred percent trust Google is that I used to have a Google AdSense account. This account ran for years. I mean seriously this thing took ages to collect money. I just reached $99 or something like that (I had set it to send me money at $100) when Google closed it down without any reason that I could see and no correspondence was entered into, if you know what I mean. So Google managed to profit from my site giving lots of hits to its advertisers and I got nothing so I don’t feel guilty at all about the free services I use. I reckon I paid for them.
At the end of each rambling I like to mention a few of my favourite up-and-coming authors from my publishers Fantasy Island Book Publishers.

With his uncanny ability to turn a phrase, Mr. Hall has shined the spotlight on a world many wonder about, but would never ask. Definitely a page turner...you never know what's coming next!!!

British, French helicopters strike Gadhafi troops

British Apache and French attack helicopters struck targets for the first time in NATO’s campaign in Libya, targeting and hitting Moammar Gadhafi’s troops early Saturday near a key coastal oil city.

The action was a significant step-up in NATO’s operations and a major boost to Libyan rebels, just a day after rebel fighters forced government troops from three western towns and broke the siege of a fourth in yet another break-down of Gadhafi’s power since the eruption in mid-February of the uprising to end his 42-year rule.

Al-Qaida militant killed in US strike in Pakistan

A top al-Qaida commander and rumored replacement for Osama bin Laden was killed in an American drone-fired missile strike close to the Afghan border, a fax from the militant group he heads and a Pakistani intelligence official said Saturday.

Ilyas Kashmiri’s apparent death is another blow to al-Qaida just over a month after bin Laden was killed by American commandos in a northwest Pakistani army town. Described by U.S. officials as al-Qaida’s military operations chief in Pakistan, the 47-year-old Pakistani was one of five most-wanted militant and dangerous leaders in the country, accused of a string of bloody attacks in South Asia, including the 2008 Mumbai massacre, as well as aiding plots in the West. Washington had offered a $5 million bounty for information leading to his location.

Of course, troops continue to serve in Afghanistan. If you would like to help support the families of our troops, go to http://www.operationhomefront.net/

Pirates of the Caribbean 4

Lady Gaga sets sights on India

Pop sensation Lady Gaga, considered the most powerful celebrity in the world, has set her sights on India, partnering with New York-based media company Desi Hits to promote her brand in India.

Gaga has launched a campaigny to spread her brand in the Indian market, a report said.

“The reason I am going to India now is because I can. I did not have the money or the resources before to travel and bring all of my things with me and reach an entire new territory of fans,” said the 25-year-old.

Fleecing of America
The most do nothing congress in generations does nothing for American jobs or to boost our economic development. In fact they have killed any measures for that purpose!!
The Path to Prosperity is the Republican Party's budget proposal for the year 2012. It is competing with budget proposals outlined separately by President Barack Obama. and the Congressional Progressive Caucus. The Republican proposal was formalized and passed by the House of Representatives on Friday, April 15th, largely along party lines. No Democrats voted in favor of the bill and only four Republicans voted against it, which created a 235 to 193 end vote total. The four Republican members of Congress who voted against the bill were Walter B. Jones, Jr., David McKinley, Ron Paul and Denny Rehberg.
Representative Paul Ryan, Chairman of the House Budget Committee, played a prominent public role in drafting and promoting The Path to Prosperity proposal, and it is often known as the Ryan budget, Ryan plan, Ryan proposal, etc.

Where are the jobs Speaker Boehner?
The promise to work for jobs seems to be lost to the GOP in their quest to satisfy wealthy donors. At every turn an apocalyptic gun is placed to the head of normal Americans in order to serve their rich masters.
The promise of extending tax cuts for the rich and an explosion of jobs and investments seem a shell game for America’s middle class. The rich and wealthy get all the breaks and the rest of us are stuck with the bills and debt. Recent election results find the American people waking to the real agenda behind the GOP legislation.
The Paul Ryan plan funny unmasked for what it is has the weary eyes of the general citizenry fully open and engaged. Fortunately the people have great and wonderful books from Fantasy Island Book Publishing’s authors to lift their spirits over the summer. Here is the latest sampling:

POSTED IN: BLOG, UNCATEGORIZED, UPDATES
I’d like to apologise to anyone following this blog for not posting in the last few weeks, gym memberships, writing, cover designing have all taken their toll on this blog!

Eurovision

I, like many Europeans were glued to the box on Saturday, (well I did fall asleep during the scoring, but that’s another story). Surprise surprise a former Eastern bloc country won. I’m not saying I didn’t like the song – I actually did - but it is getting a little predictable now. C’mon be honest who else noticed the gorgeous tenor from France with the amazing voice but the low scores?

Bomb Alert

Get rid of one Terrorist (Bin Laden) and another pops up. They’re like moles or buses or something. London has received a bomb threat and Buckingham Palace is to be closed as a result today. No device has yet been found.

IMF Boss in trouble

Another alleged assault happened over nine years ago but pressure was brought to bear on the writer to convince her to keep quiet. Now there is another alleged assault by the erstwhile boss. Some say it is a conspiracy, some say twice is not a coincidence. Who knows but it makes for interesting reading.

US Debt Limit

Today the US will reach their credit limit. Panic not my overseas friends, apparently this is not the crisis it looks but if nothing is done by Congress it soon could be. Then again, it is not like a mortgage or car. Can someone reposses the US?

Fantasy Island Publishing

My publisher, I love saying that, is growing still. They are in the process of bringing out the books as paperbacks. If you don’t have a Nook, a Kindle or you just love the feel of paper, then a whole world of imagination is about to appear before you.

FIBP has started a fan page on FaceBook, “like” us to stay up to date with our latest news releases! Fantasy Island Book Publishing on Facebook

Apocalypse of the Barbarians; By Sandy Krolick PH. D.

Today there is a familiar sense of self-estrangement that haunts contemporary life in the West. The Recovery of Ecstasy gently and gingerly leads the reader to explore a different way of being in the world. With a detour through the central Siberian Steppe, and drawing upon aspects of Western thought that incorporate deep structures of primal life, the most cherished assumptions of Western civilization are laid bare. This work allows the reader to recover a feral experience of ecstasy resident in each of us – in our genome, so to speak.

Brother, Betrayed; By Danielle Raver

Oman, eldest and Anteria’s promised king, leads his brothers on their journey through Arnith. Fasime, driven by passion, seeks a life of romance and adventure. Syah, born the ailing youngest brother of these two outgoing princes, endeavours to overcome his bleak destiny through pursuit of knowledge and magic… a quest that may reveal unknown power within his own soul.

A tale woven with deception, war, sacrifice, and magic, BROTHER, BETRAYED takes readers to a troubled kingdom surrounded by barbarians, magical races, and forbidden boundaries.

Children Of The Elementi; By Ceri Clark

The powerful Elementi Empire spanned over a thousand years, its kings and queens loved and revered by their people and their elemental powers feared by their enemies. One fateful night almost a century ago, the Empire was destroyed by treachery and Magi illusion. All five heirs were thought to be lost… until now.

Ednor Scardens by Kathleen Barker

When the boob fairy makes an early visit in sixth grade, eleven-year-old Kate Fitzgerald is unprepared for the repercussions. Her puppy-love relationship with classmate Gabe Kelsey quickly blossoms. But her carefree days in Catholic school darken with the arrival of Father John O’Conner, a predatory priest with a hidden past. Life becomes even more tangled when Kate falls hard for Gabe’s darkly handsome older brother, Michael. The Kelsey boys couldn’t be more different: one is shy and self-effacing; the other is tall, athletic, and confident.

Emeline and the Muntants: By Rachel Tsoumbakos

Viruses used to create the cure mutated. They mutated in such a way that no one would have guessed. Something interesting happened instead. People were no longer predisposed to cancer and diabetes. They were now more apt to becoming a zombie, vampire, werewolf or a troll.

The Land Of Nod: By Gary Hoover

Jeff Browning is a teenage boy who, following the mysterious disappearance of his father (a brilliant physicist), finds a portal in his father’s office that transports him to another dimension.

The dimension is populated by fantastic and dangerous creatures and also an advanced society of humans. That society, while very different from those on earth, is oddly similar, in some ways, to the society in which Jeff grew up.

As Jeff looks for clues regarding what may have happened to his father, he is accused by some of being a spy while thought by others to be a prophesized figure . . . who may be the key to victory in a developing war.

Losing Beauty; By Joanna Garth

Child abuse, cross-dressing, theft, adultery- people in Persey Campbell’s town have terrible secrets. What she can’t figure out is why everyone is so desperate to tell her their worst secrets.

Daniel Hartnett is a lawyer who has it all. People think he’s lucky. What they don’t understand is Daniel has a gift that lets him hear the meanings behind other people’s words.

This modern retelling of the Persephone myth is the perfect book for anyone looking for a beach read this summer!

Miranda Warning; By Marilyn Rucker Norrod

Why is someone killing the band geeks of Richland, Texas? Miranda Beeling would like to know, since she is one of them.

Law grad Miranda Beeling is trying to recover from the recent death of her mother and the betrayal of her fiancé (an aspiring bigamist). She’s retreated back to her childhood home, trying to sort through her clutterholic father’s hoards of junk, despite his determined opposition. (Her mother’s ghost, who appears to her in dreams and is inclined to nag, insists she keep trying.) Miranda’s only enjoyable social activity is playing saxophone in the local community band. Her enjoyment ends when trombonist David Hu is killed, and bassoonist Louisa Parkinson, Miranda’s best friend, is first accused of the murder, then attacked herself. Motivated by concern for her friends and an inescapable feeling that she might be next on the victim list, Miranda decides to investigate the case.

Sofia’s Story, The Shattered Seeds; By Clu Gallagher

After the Third Reich shattered her life, Sofia abandons any ties to her own heritage. Now, facing death, worried about the disposition of her grandmother’s treasured quilt, the one item in her vast estate that she values most. To Sofia, the quilt is the embodiment of her childhood and a constant reminder of her beloved grandmother who had made the quilt and shared family stories as she caressed each patch lovingly. Unable to find a suitable home for the tattered blanket which means so much to her, she concludes that she must bury the quilt with her . . . until she meets Janene McDeenon.

A quilt – just patches of a German family’s life, worn soft by Time, but representing a lot more to its owner, “Sofie Simon”, now a famous author. Sofia had overcome life’s adversities by clinging to the traditional German values of her very sheltered upbringing in post WWI Berlin.

The King Of Egypt: By J. J. Makins

Raised a warrior, Tigris, crowned Nitiqreti, is the first female pharaoh. With a beauty that can bring men to their knees and a power that reaps respect from an army, she is prepared to take on any enemy. Swashbucklers, pirates, sword fighting courageous Knights and Fair maidens abound in The Last Good Knight. In the tradition of a Wilbur Smith and Michael Crichton’s Medieval block buster Timeline. Action abounds in this historical fiction account.

From slaying dragons, to rescuing the King’s Whore, to secret missions for good King Henri, no job is too big or too small for the Great Knight, Sir Julian Lackland. But what happens when the only one still willing to take on the bad jobs is too old to be doing them? How does a hero retire from the business of saving people?

The Night Watchman Express; By Alison DeLuca

During the day she has very different problems. Her new guardians, the Marchpanes, have arrived with their son, Simon, to live in Miriam’s house. The Marchpanes are plotting to take over her dead father’s business.

As they are both strong willed and stubborn, Miriam and Simon develop an instant dislike for each other. They have to work together, however, in order to solve the mystery of what the Marchpanes are doing with Miriam’s inheritance.

President Obama was willing to risk a military confrontation with a close ally in order to capture or kill Bin Laden.
This would have set off an even larger breach with the Pakistanis than has taken place since officials in Islamabad learned that helicopters filled with members of a Navy Seals team had flown undetected into one of their cities, and burst into a compound where Bin Laden was hiding.
One senior Obama administration official said: “Their instructions were to avoid any confrontation if at all possible. But if they had to return fire to get out, they were authorized to do it.”
The planning also illustrates how little the administration trusted the Pakistanis as they set up their operation. They also rejected a proposal to bring the Pakistanis in on the mission.

Apparently the lovely Pippa Middleton is attracting as much attention for what she DIDN’T wear as for what she did wear. A picture has surfaced of the lovely new sister-in-law stripped down to bra and skirt having fun with an unnamed young man! This has earned her the nickname of “Pippa NoStockings…” We just think she’s a lovely girl, and bless her for having a good time.

Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom will travel from Louisville to Maryland on Tuesday morning as he and his connections prepare for the 136th Preakness Stakes. The middle jewel in racing's Triple Crown will go off at Pimlico Racecourse on Saturday, May 21.

"Two days later, it is still surreal," said Graham Motion, who is based at Fair Hill Training Center in Elkton, MD. "I had thought about it (winning the Kentucky Derby). There is not a trainer that doesn't think about it. I just didn't think it would happen at this stage of my career."

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began opening the Bonnet Carré Spillway in Louisiana Monday to ease pressure on the levee system protecting New Orleans, continuing the battle against a Mississippi River flood that could crest at Memphis later in the day.

Memphis residents are preparing for potential flooding from Mississippi River, which expected to crest along Tennessee city near record levels Tuesday. Cameron McWhirter has the latest from Memphis.

(Her mother's ghost, who appears to her in dreams and is inclined to nag, insists she keep trying.) Miranda's only enjoyable social activity is playing saxophone in the local community band. Her enjoyment ends when trombonist David Hu is killed, and bassoonist Louisa Parkinson, Miranda's best friend, is first accused of the murder, then attacked herself. Motivated by concern for her friends and an inescapable feeling that she might be next on the victim list, Miranda decides to investigate the case.

Op-ed by J Darroll Hall #1 bestselling author of Double Down Bounce: How to make huge profits in a volatile stock market!
US DEBT
The GOP with the Tea party as its spearhead have pulled out the political gun again and are holding it to the heads of all Americans, investors, pension holder and their primary sponsor Big business. This is the second time this tactic has been used. The first of course was to hold 98% of America hostage to the tax cuts for the super-rich. Recent polling data clearly show the American public overwhelmingly does not support those tax cut extensions.
The Koch brothers, Fox news, Rick Scott and Big business represented by The US chamber of commerce find themselves hostage as well by their own creation, the Tea Party. Led by Michelle Bachmann in the house and Rand Paul in the senate, they threaten to unwind the world’s economy by allowing the debt ceiling to expire for the first time in history. This reckless act has world markets and the Standard and Poor’s rating agency both shaky at best. Ordinary American with potential pensions at risk of a third collapse in value in only one decade is perplexed at this political tactics use again as well.
Just when the market has made a substantial come back from the abyss for normal Americans and business worldwide, this Frankenstein creation seems to care not for the damage that will be caused worldwide. Employment in the US has rebounded and business outlook improved significantly over the past two years and will reverse past historic lows of 2007 if the Tea Party continues down this dangerous path. The two unfunded wars, a trillion dollar pay off to drug makers, and another trillion dollar tax rebate to billionaires will pail in comparison to the coming economic implosion if the radical right does not change course.
This tactic to slow the economic recovery for political gain has all the earmark of dirty political trick to win at all cost. The overall American public is beginning to wake up and has shown severe disdain for the GOP and the Tea Parties radical methods of economic extortion in recent polls. The investor class has seen tax rate reductions unheard of in times since the horse and buggy roamed Wall Street. Now GOP governors are fully on the band wagon, bowing to their master who paid their way into office with huge paybacks. Some are not only lowering taxes but eliminating them altogether at the expense of its ordinary citizens and taxpayers.
The American middle class has been stretched like a rubber band and may snap out of existence in this decade. Thirty years of failed Reaganism looks to go into overdrive and sweep away any security an entire century of generations has fought and died for. The poor, seniors and middle center are already pushed down to poverty levels never before imagined. The upper one third still clinging on by chipped nails will be the next to fall pray. In one more decade of decline the top 2% will overwhelm all other sectors of our economy if this trend continues unabated. Further extension of the tax cuts to the rich will shift 5 trillion in debt to Middle America while shifting that same amount of wealth to the super-rich by the end of this decade. The GOP and Paul Ryan’s game plan; raid Social security and Medicare funds to pay down the debt while shifting more wealth in tax cuts upward to their benefactors.
The current GOP tactic to limit voter rights and disenfranchise every ethnic group, labor coalition and other venerable segment of the populace may become the straw to break the countries back. An estimated ten million legitimate voters have already had their rights to do so vanquish. In many states obstacles are going up for seniors (37 million), minorities (99 million) and the poor (52.5 million) to limit voter turn out in future elections. One state has taken over an entire city and pledged the best asset the city owns to the highest political donor. The rights and representation afforded in the Constitution by election completely overturned by a stroke of the Governors pen.
This current situation had become a race for a winner take all type of nation and governmental body. If the top 2% prevail in controlling energy, food, resources and our ability to vote, the future hold little promise for generations of ordinary Americans to come. The advantage the super-rich have is American ego’s, no one want to associate themselves with these groups, although 98% percent of us live and work their. We have been conditioned to delude ourselves into winning the great American lottery of life, and striking it rich ourselves. You do have better chances of winning the real lottery before that happens.

The Royal Wedding

Roughly two billion people around the globe will be tuning in to watch the wedding of Prince William and Miss Kate Middleton. As part of the preparation, the choirboys singing at the wedding have it to give up chocolate – it ruins their voices, apparently. They’ve been promised an entire backpack of chocolate after the ceremony, however.
The Household Cavalry have to take care of every detail of the uniforms. Their boots will be waxed with beeswax, spit and polish in layers to create a mirror-like gloss.

Scotland Yard is already making preparations against proposed protests, such as one by MAC (Muslims Against Crusaders.) According to the Yard, however, the number of protestors is expected to be very small.
Apparently Kate’s cake will feature flowers. The creator, Fiona Cairns, is creating a multi layered fruitcake, the traditional wedding cake in Britain. Apparently her creation will feature English roses, Scottish thistles, Welsh daffodils and Irish shamrocks, of course.

Morning Joe with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski will be broadcasting from the UK during the week of the wedding. Their broadcast will begin at 3 am on the day of the wedding.

The wedding will be streamed live on CNN and YouTube.

What a shocker last week! Pia Toscano’s elimination from Idol may have been one of the most unexpected vote offs in Idol history. However, apparently Pia has been getting a lot of interest from A&M as well as Interscope. This will probably not be the last time we hear from Pia.
Which designer will be making Kate Middleton’s dress? British Vogue is sponsoring a bridal issue in May in honor of the Royal Wedding, and they are featuring several designers. However, there are no plans to feature a McQueen dress, fuelling rumors that Sarah Burton might make Kate’s dress. And we hear that Sir Elton John and his partner will definitely be attending the event.
Breaking news form the Ivory coast today – Laurent Gbagbo was captured. However, now Outtara has to try and create peace in a country divided by civil war for over twenty years.
Extending the woes of the nuclear industry, it is the 25th anniversary of the explosion at Chernobyl. Already crushed by the recent events in Japan, nuclear plants must now field speculations that the disaster in the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan may reach Chernobyl-like proportions. Furthermore, it now appears that the “sarcophagus” enshrouding the Soviet nuclear facility is degrading faster than anyone thought, prompting Russia to demand $600 million from the international community for repairs.
Many Americans, and even many American politicians, fail to grasp the implication of even suggesting that the US defaulting on it debt. If Congress does not raise the debt ceiling, it could end up flattening the economy and damaging the country’s credit rating.

Connie J. Jasperson’s new book “The Last Good Knight” has been received well and grows in readership daily. Compared to the great Wilbur Smith in her action and bawdy prose, she will be one of the great writers of fictional adventures to come.
