Sax and the Suburb is "a quirky tale of murder, love gone wrong, and the hope of love going right." Local Austin Texas author and songwriter Marilyn Rucker will be holding a release party for her new mystery novel, Sax and the Suburb, at the Barnes and Noble at the Homestead Shopping Center at Lakeline Crossing, 14010 US Hwy. 183 Austin, TX 78717. On April 27th from noon till two p.m. To reserve your copy call (512) 249-5644.

The festivities will continue later that same evening (April 27th) at Patsy’s Cowgirl Café at 5001 E Ben White Blvd from 7-9 p.m. as Marilyn plays with The Studebakers band and read excerpts from the humorous and thrilling mystery novel. There will be drawings for door prizes, and of course, a celebratory cake.

Both events will include personalized books signings and Barnes and Noble giveaways.

Rucker has been writing songs in the Austin area for years. She’s been showing them off playing the piano and singing with The Therapy Sisters, Mr. Fabulous and Casino Royale, Maryann Price, and most recently with The Studebakers. Sax and the Suburb is her first published novel. In Sax and the Suburb , law school grad Miranda Beeling is trying to recover from the recent death of her mother and the betrayal of her fiancé (an aspiring bigamist). She's retreated back to her childhood home, trying to sort through her clutterholic father’s hoards of junk, despite his determined opposition. (Her mother's ghost, who appears to her in dreams and is inclined to nag, insists she keep trying.) Miranda's only enjoyable social activity is playing saxophone in the local community band. Her enjoyment ends when trombonist David Hu is killed, and bassoonist Louisa Parkinson, Miranda's best friend, is first accused of the murder, then attacked herself. Motivated by concern for her friends and an inescapable feeling that she might be next on the victim list, Miranda decides to investigate the case. Sax and the Suburb has won both an IndieBrag Award and an Awesome Indies Award for excellence in writing. The book also received praise from the editors at “A Woman’s Write” as "a quirky tale of murder, love gone wrong, and the hope of love going right."
